Job Role

We are looking for a Digital officer to join our dynamic Data Analyst.

To develop and deliver customer and operational insight that supports the continuous improvement in the Society’s commercial and operational performance.

The Data Analyst will be responsible for the development and provision of Business Intelligence and Operational & Customer Insight.

Working closely with stakeholders across retail, marketing, operations and finance this role will help to drive profitability throughout the business through analysis. It will be responsible for provisioning self-service reporting and advanced analytics.

 

 MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Support decision making by using analytic techniques to gain insights from the Society’s various data sets. This will cross a number of departments including;
    • Commercial e.g. sales and margin.
    • Operations e.g. manpower and waste.
    • Marketing e.g. campaign success, member sales.
    • Finance e.g. stock loss.
  • Develop both ad-hoc and regular reports that provide meaningful insights to managers;
    • Produce regular reports to agreed schedules.
    • Identify, understand and remediate data quality issues.
    • Develop insight packs that will be presented to senior management.
  • Support the improvement of analytical capabilities across the Society;
    • Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on analytics and insight performance, and to communicate the subsequent business improvements.
    • Champion the use and value of insights and analysis across the business.
    • Providing support, education and training to colleagues to help build a data-led insights capability within the Society.
    • Translate business questions into specific hypotheses that can be answered quantitatively.
    • Support the development of Business Intelligence systems by identify and documenting requirements for data.
  • Support the Head of Data with the development and implementation of the Society’s data strategy.
  • Deputise for the Head of Data as appropriate and agreed.

 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Excellent interpersonal abilities with good listening skills, writing and verbal skills.
  2. Ability to evaluate risks and opportunities and use analytical skills to solve problems. Is able to take initiative and drive for results.
  3. Self-starter; strong project management skills; meets deadlines; sense of urgency and responsibility; ability to multi-task and work under pressure; detail oriented.
  4. Ability to take complex projects from scoping to delivery
  5. Thinks innovatively and creatively, and displays negotiation skills.
  6. A keen eye for detail and the ability to spot and fix errors in code.
  7. Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Experience working with large volumes of data
  9. Good presentation and report-writing skills. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS

  1. A bachelor's degree in an analytical or numerate discipline (mathematics, statistics, natural science, operational research) is desirable
  2. Experience in a business intelligence / analytical role within a retail organisation is desirable.
  3. Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, is essential.
  4. Experience in Microsoft reporting packages, particularly PowerBi and SSRS, is highly desirable.
  5. Knowledge of SQL skills desirable
