Our CEO, Mark Cox wins Director of the Year award

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society celebrated success at the IoD Awards 2021

Mark Cox, Chief Executive Officer for The Channel Island Co-operative Society, was presented with Director of the Year – Large Business award at the Jersey Institute of Directors Awards 2021.

The black-tie ceremony took place at the Royal Yacht Hotel on Friday evening to celebrate excellence in leadership across the Island. The Society’s CEO was awarded the prize in the large business category for his guidance throughout the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The award recognised Mark’s commitment to the organisation, its colleagues, and members by ensuring that the Society remained dedicated to its Co-operative principles of openness, empowerment, passion, recognition, and co-operation. It also acknowledged Mark’s role during the recent covid pandemic, leading the Society through unprecedented and challenging times.

Mark was praised for the Society’s response to the lockdown in which he put the wellbeing and safety of colleagues at the forefront. By empowering management with the confidence and understanding to support front line workers, the Society were able to respond quickly to the new guidelines and legislation to ensure that the organisation and its colleagues could operate safely.

He also appreciated the challenges faced for those associated with the Society and facilitated financial support for suppliers through accelerated payments, and ensured tenants were offered rent holidays.

On receiving the accolade, Mark Cox, Chief Executive Officer for The Channel Islands Co-operative Society said: ‘I am honoured to be recognised for this award. Like many industries, it has been without doubt a difficult time for retail and I am so very proud of how our colleagues, suppliers and members have responded.

‘My vision for the future is to continue to drive our business forward, with our values and principles front of mind. We will act with a growth mindset, embrace innovation, use technology to modernise our proposition and provide more agile ways of working for colleagues. It has been a privilege to lead The Society this last year and I am very excited for its future.’
