How shopping at Co-op has helped your community this Christmas

23 December 2022

Our Co-op Community Fund has donated over £80,000 to 74 charities across our islands this year alone, and it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to our customers and members, we’ve been able to contribute to a whole host of inspiring community initiatives this festive season.

Guernsey Welfare Service
In Guernsey Welfare Service’s own words, ‘Guernsey is a wonderful place to live - but we also know that behind closed doors there's another picture for some.’ The service makes an incredible difference to the community and their work is more important than ever during the current cost-of-living crisis. This festive season, Co-op have made a £5,000 donation in vouchers to the Welfare Service’s foodbank.

Salvation Army
On Christmas Day itself, the Salvation Army are making a difference by providing Christmas lunch and companionship to people living alone, as well delivering food parcels to families who are struggling to provide a proper Christmas lunch. Your Coop have donated £1000 in vouchers to provide an added Christmas gift to those people.

Age Concern
Co-op colleagues have been providing some festive cheer, mince pies and contributing to a Christmas lunch at some fantastic festive Age Concern events in Guernsey.

Bright Beginnings
As the only children’s centre in Guernsey, Bright Beginnings offer invaluable support to parents and children. Co-op has donated £625 to provide 25 families with vouchers this Christmastime.

Shiloh Church
Shiloh Church’s foodbank has experienced increased demand recently. £300 in vouchers has been contributed to help towards delivering Christmas hampers to members of the community that are finding it difficult financially.

And it doesn’t stop there, we have provided smaller donations of up to £100 in vouchers to many local charities, schools and community groups to support their community initiatives that help to make a difference.

Community isn’t just for Christmas! As we look ahead to 2023, support for charities and causes here in the Channel Islands continues, with applications for our Co-op Community Fund Spring pay-out welcome.
