The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is a unique part of island life — a successful business owned by the people it serves. As a local resident and Co-op member, I value the important role it plays in supporting both members and the wider community. I am standing for election as a Director because I would welcome the opportunity to help the Society continue to thrive in the years ahead.
I believe organisations like the Co-op matter because they combine commercial success with a genuine commitment to serving their members and communities.
If elected, I would seek to represent the voice of the community on the board. Through my work and volunteering within the island community, I have developed a good understanding of the financial pressures many people face today. I would be committed to ensuring that the perspective of local members and households continues to be heard as part of the Society’s decision-making.
My professional background is in financial services and insurance, where I have worked for many years in roles involving risk assessment, financial oversight and business management. I hold a Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute and have experience as a commercial insurance broker, underwriter and team leader. Through this work I have helped businesses understand and manage risk while planning for long-term stability and growth.
During my time in financial services I have also contributed to board-level discussions and strategic decision-making within a local company. This has given me valuable insight into governance, organisational leadership and the responsibilities involved in guiding a business through both opportunities and challenges.
Alongside my professional work, I have been involved in community leadership for many years. In my current role within a local charitable organisation, I oversee staff, volunteers, facilities and events while contributing to the wider direction and vision of the organisation. These experiences have reinforced my belief that strong organisations are built not only on sound strategy but also on clear values, trust and accountability.
If elected, my focus would be on helping the Co-op continue to thrive as a member-owned business that delivers both commercial success and community benefit. In particular I am interested in how the Society can:
• continue strengthening its connection with members
• support local suppliers and the island economy
• ensure long-term financial sustainability
• adapt well to technological and retail changes
• maintain the Co-op’s strong culture and values as it grows
The retail landscape is changing rapidly, and organisations like the Co-op must continue to evolve. At the same time, the Society’s distinctive strengths — member ownership, community investment and a clear ethical foundation — are more valuable than ever.
I would seek to bring thoughtful governance, financial awareness and a strong commitment to the Co-op’s values. Alongside the experience already present on the board, I would aim to contribute a fresh perspective and an independent voice — supporting the Society’s leadership while asking thoughtful questions and offering constructive challenge where appropriate.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my candidacy.
