Dream Come True for Young Ice Cream Competition Winner!

23 June 2025

Jersey schoolboy’s winning recipe hits the shelves – and supports a great cause.

It was the best Friday morning ever for 12-year-old Will Deighton, who swapped the classroom for a behind-the-scenes VIP tour of Jersey Dairy, and watched his very own ice cream flavour roll off the production line!

Will Deighton, who is a pupil at Victoria College, came up with his ‘peach’ of a recipe to win a competition organised by the Channel Islands Coop and Jersey Dairy to celebrate 50 years of Les Amis, a local charity empowering Islanders with learning disabilities.

His inspiration was Jersey Dairy’s own peach yoghurt, which is one of his favourites. Will’s winning recipe for Peachy Beachy has been produced by Jersey Dairy and goes on sale exclusively in Coop stores across the Island from this week, for a limited period. And there’s more than just taste to feel good about: every tub of Peachy Beachy sold helps support the vital work of Les Amis.

In addition to having his ice cream flavour made, Will walked away with a full case to enjoy at home. Will also had the chance to meet some residents of Les Amis who helped sticker the cartons at the Jersey Dairy factory.

All profits from the sale of 'Peachy Beachy' will support Les Amis, the long standing charity empowering Islanders with learning disabilities.

Shaun Findlay, Managing Director of Les Amis said:

What a great competition this has been and although there could only be one winner, it has been amazing to see the community get behind the initiative to help us celebrate our Golden Anniversary. Congratulations to Will and I know all our team, and our residents, are looking forward to trying the new ice cream.”

The competition attracted hundreds of entries and is one of the most popular the Coop has run.

Carl Winn, Head of Sustainability at the Coop said:

We’re so proud to see ‘Peachy Beachy’ come to life — it’s a fun, creative flavour that perfectly captures the joy of summer. This competition has brought our community together in support of Les Amis, and we can’t wait for Islanders to try Will’s delicious idea in Coop stores.”

Eamon Fenlon, Managing Director of Jersey Dairy said:

"We’re delighted to have been involved in this initiative and to help develop a unique product to support Les Amis and the incredible work it has done for our community for the last 50 years. Congratulations to the winner – we’re excited to be going into production with this truly inventive flavour ice-cream.

Limited edition 'Peachy Beachy' ice cream will hit Coop store freezers across Jersey from 25 June 2025, priced at £5.75.
