Duncan Ashley, senior travel consultant, took a trip to India to experience the country’s ‘golden triangle.’
A journey around India’s ‘golden triangle’ will reveal the exceptional wealth of cultural, historical and architectural splendour in three of India’s most enthralling cities, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Delhi, India's capital, is steeped in history, from the Mughal Empire with its Red Fort and Jama Masjid Mosque, to the days of the British Raj with the majestic India Gate, Connaught Circus and Government Buildings.
A walking tour of Old Delhi lets you experience the sights and smells of India today with its spice markets and bustling alleyways.
A must for any visitor to India is Agra, home to India’s most celebrated attraction, the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1653 in memory of his late wife, took 20 years to build and is lauded as the world’s greatest monument to love. Experience the wonder of the sight of the Taj glistening as the sun rises or, equally as impressive, watching the changing colours as the sun sets.
Visit the mighty Agra Fort built in the 16th Century which encompasses the imperial city of the Mughal rulers.
Jaipur meaning ‘city of victory’ was founded in 1727 and is known as the ‘Pink City’ due to the colour of the stone.
Jaipur’s must see attractions are the Amber Fort and the sprawling palace complex. The palace is still home to the current Maharaja and is a fascinating insight into the lavish lifestyle of a bygone era.
