Job Role

We are looking for a Health and Safety Assistant to join the Health and Safety team. To champion Health and Safety excellence throughout the Society through application of best practice, safety behaviours and to promote common standards in all areas

The role involves working as part of the Health and Safety team to deliver Health and Safety, including food safety and security related initiatives.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Health and Safety Management System

  1. Assist the Health and Safety Manager and the team with delivery of the Society’s Health and Safety and Food safety strategy including supporting Health and Safety and food safety projects and initiatives
  2. Champion the use of the occupational health and safety management system in place
  3. Support the design of Health and Safety and food safety arrangements throughout the Society, raising concerns and stopping unsafe practices when witnessed
  4. Assist in the identification of the need for risk assessments, compliance and training of colleagues including completing and reviewing risk assessments and matters related to security and CCTV
  5. Attend and participate as a member of the Health and Safety Committees as required
  6. Review levels of competent person training in place and help plan how to meet the demands required for the Locations and Society
  7. Complete safety walks and inspections, creating following up actions for non-compliance
  8. Investigate near misses and observations on location and work with stakeholders to identify root causes

Training

  1. Assist in delivery of the Health and Safety and food safety training in the face-to-face sessions, including as part of the new colleague induction process, and delivering ‘toolbox talks’ on health and safety matters
  2. Review training material delivered via Upskills and in the classroom to ensure they are effective as interventions, cover the legal requirements and meet the behavioural expectations
  3. Analyse and report on e-learning participation and support colleagues to complete on location

Administration

  1. Support Health and Safety administration functions
  2. Support colleagues with Health and Safety related queries on the phone, e-mail and face-to-face in a timely manner.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Recognised Health and Safety qualification (or working towards one)
  • Recognised Food Safety qualification (or working towards one)
  • A general understanding of Health and Safety duties for all parties
  • Security and CCTV experience would be advantageous
