Sleep Well: Meet the producer

10 August 2020

Most children have a glass of milk before bed, but who says adults can’t enjoy the same before they settle down for the night.

We are proud to stock Sleep Well, a locally made Jersey product that is guaranteed to help you sleep during these warm summer evenings.

Founded by husband and wife, Allan and Sam Watts, this delicious night-time delight will take you back to your childhood but leave you wanting more.

We caught up with the team behind Sleep Well to find out more.

Beat the heat and Sleep Well

Summer’s here and whilst the warm weather and lighter evenings are great for our social lives, they can play havoc with our sleep patterns. Not getting your eight hours a night regularly can take its toll on both your health and your immunity.

Sleep is our superpower

Sleep is critical to physical health and the effective functioning of the immune system. It is also vital for emotional wellness and mental health, helping to beat back stress, depression, and anxiety. It’s not just our immune system and mood that suffers from poor sleep either. During sleep our brain is busy processing what it has learnt that day, our heart rate and temperature drops, skin cells regenerate and our muscles repair.

Sleep Well this summer

Sleep Well is on a mission to help islanders get a great night’s sleep. This delicious and nutritious bedtime drink is made with whole Jersey milk, honey and valerian – the natural herb that’s been helping people relax and sleep for more than 2,000 years.  Sleep Well is just as nice gently warmed or served chilled. Snuggle down and drink it 30 minutes before you want to sleep as part of your healthy bedtime routine.

It can be for the whole family too

Sleep Well is great for all ages over 12 months. It comes in 200ml cartons for one off sleep help, or in handy 1 litre family cartons for the whole family to enjoy.

Top tips to help you beat the heat and sleep well all summer long

Sleep Well (on the rocks)

Enjoy it chilled from the fridge, poured over some ice cubes, 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep. You can find both vanilla and chocolate flavours in your local Jersey Co-op.

Keep your PJs loose

Less is more. The clothing you wear to sleep has a major impact on your body temperature throughout the night. It's important to wear breathable clothes which won't trap body heat. Natural materials such as cotton or linen are better for absorbing sweat and allowing the skin to breathe.

Avoid exercise at night

Exercising too close to bedtime will not only leave you with a sudden surge of energy but it will also increase your body's core temperature - both having a negative impact on your sleep. Instead, why not head out first thing and kick start your day with a morning workout instead?

Be consistent

Doing similar things before bed each night helps to signal to the brain that it’s time for sleep.  What you do half an hour before you go to sleep directly affects the quality and quantity of sleep you have. So, whether you curl up with a good book, take a relaxing bath or enjoy a cup of Sleep Well, doing the same relaxing thing every night will build a brilliant bedtime routine that helps both your body and mind get ready to sleep.
