We supported 26 projects in our first funding pay-out of 2023, donating a total of £26,149.00 across the islands. 

Jersey

James' Ark

This project is to support families going through separation and divorce to make the right decisions for their children. The funding will allow James' Ark to run a 5-week course while parents are going through separation, offering parents different strategies for setting up a new life as a single parent. The course is recognised and recommended by the family courts.

Family Nursing and Home Care

Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) run the Child Measurement Programme (CMP) in Jersey. As part of the CMP, all reception age children have their hearing checked which is so important because hearing impacts a child’s speech and language development, social skills and education. The CMP rely heavily on FNHC’s two existing audiometers to perform hearing tests, and they're now in need of replacement.

Jersey Recovery College

This application is for kitchen supplies for Jersey Recovery College's new office. This is a hugely beneficial move for the organisation as they've been in temporary offices for the last year. This new office will also have a training room, meaning they can deliver courses there. The second part of the application is sponsorship for an 80's night they're running in September, to raise valuable funds for the charity. All money raised will go towards keeping their mental health community courses free.

Jersey Association of Home Educators

Whilst some families make the choice to home educate, others home educate due to the additional learning needs of their children and have no other alternative. This funding will go towards holding an annual sports and community day, in collaboration with Sports Bug, for children who are home educated. The grant will be used for the hire of the sports field, the time and costs for the Sportsbug company as well as healthy snacks, refreshments for the children.

Friends of the Jersey Neonatal Unit

It's a Knockout and Family Fun Day is a charity event taking place on 9th and 10th September 2023. It involves over 700 contestants taking part in the 'Knockout games' and the Family Fun Day is open to the general public so that they can view the contestants taking part in the games, while enjoying various family activities. The money will be used towards the costs of hiring bouncy castles and other fun activities for families to enjoy together. If these costs are covered, 100% of all money raised at the family event can go directly to the charity.

Oxygen Therapy Jersey

Oxygen Therapy Jersey need marketing equipment and supplies that they can use at multiple events throughout the year to help raise funds and awareness and increase the work they can do. This includes indoor and outdoor banners, tablecloths (with and without logos), logo pens pencils and bunting that will be used at various events including The Boat Show, Gorey Fete and Pride.

This funding is for a personalised gazebo the association can use for outdoor family and child events. They will use it to get a a branded Gazebo displaying their Associations name and details.

Le Squez Youth Project

Young people love doing arts and crafts, so the youth club want to get some new canvases and supplies for art work and projects that will highlight environmental issues.

St Matthews Church Children's Ministry

The church is starting a forest school which will be available to children and young people in the church catchment (Millbrook and wider areas). The funding will be used to purchase equipment and resources needed to run the school.

The National Trust for Jersey (charity)

The #LoveNature festival is a weeklong event staged in and around National Trust sites in St Ouen's Bay aimed at all ages. The event includes activities which present the magnificence of the natural environment, aiming to inspire awe and wonder. Funding is required for the event programme (including design and print for e-brochure and hard copy).

23rd Jersey (St Lawrence) Scout Group

This funding will support the cost of participating in scouting activities for low-income families, so that 23rd Jersey Scout Group can continue to be as inclusive as possible by actively engaging and supporting all children and young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. The money will be used to support families with the costs in participating in scouting activities.

AllMatters Neurodiverse Jersey

The Neurodiverse Explorers Book Club pilot project is an innovative way of introducing primary aged children to the concept of Neurodiversity and the importance of inclusion. By reading these beautifully illustrated new books about our differences it introduces and normalises primary aged children to the idea of Neurodiversity and explains how this is relevant to school and daily life.

The Salvation Army Jersey

These funds will go towards purchasing seed, compost and additional tools, and painting and repairing the honesty box at the Salvation Army's garden in Grouville. The therapeutic gardening project is based in their small field in Gorey, where they work in partnership with the Government of Jersey Learning Disability Service to provide therapeutic horticulture to adults with additional learning needs. Veg from the field is used to make the daily free soup in their café.

Jersey Employment Trust

Three full-time Employment Co-ordinators work with young people in schools, helping them transition to employment. The biggest referral now relates to mental health. JET are now raising their profile and want to refresh their image with young people. The money will fund a package of resources to engage young people at careers fairs, made by Acorn Woodshack from reused timber. It will include a giant Jenga game and noughts and crosses which will be used to ask questions about the service.

Aureole Music

Aureole Music lead a very popular community singing service in Jersey's care homes called Monday Melodies. They wish to publish 40 copies of a new and expanded songbook, in three sections as well as 30 copies of large print versions that the residents of the care homes can use.

Guernsey

 

The Ladies’ College - Melrose

The funds will help to develop a space in the preparatory playground that will be a calm, quiet, relaxing space for girls who need it. This will include a willow dome for shade, waterproof cushions, sensory garden plants and a bench to encourage girls to go to if they need a quiet area.

The Mill Street Community Café

The Mill Street Community Café will offer cookery workshops to people who lack the necessary skills to prepare nutritious meals for themselves and their families.  Hoping to inspire the next generation and promote well-being for everybody, the funds will purchase ingredients and extra cooking utensils for use with groups of people, plus protective clothing, cleaning materials and containers for participants to transport their meals.

Guernsey Friends of Maggie's

Nobody living with cancer should feel alone, helpless and overwhelmed by what they are going through. Guernsey Friends of Maggie's ("GFoM") relies in part on voluntary donations from the local community so that the Maggie's centre in Southampton can continue to offer Guernsey residents (including family members and/or carers) who need treatment off-island, cancer support specialists, psychologists and other specialist staff, for free.

Baubigny Schools PTA

The current St Sampsons High School sports kits (which are primarily used for football fixtures but also other sports as required) are approximately 10 years old and very worn. Education rules state kits can't be labelled with company names so they've not been able to secure sponsorship to cover the cost.

The Gatehouse & Learning Centre is situated at the entrance of the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden in Saumarez Park.  The money will contribute to the surface finish of the front foyer at the entrance to the Gatehouse.

Le Murier School

The library at Le Murier School needs a total revamp to make it more appealing to students who already face difficulties with their learning. The media centre should serve many functions, including as a central hub for student learning, a place for teachers to collaborate and access technology, and a safe space for the students to relax in so the funding will contribute towards two iPad airs for the students to use.

The Clean Earth Trust

Since its inception the team have launched a number of successful initiatives to raise awareness of the growing challenges that face our natural world. They focus on community-led and data-driven projects that create meaningful and measurable impact, alongside campaigns that highlight important local issues concerning the health of our island and its inhabitants. Funds will be spent on the day to day running of the charity for items such as: beach clean items, the van to pick up and drop off beach cleaning equipment and rubbish, storage and upkeep of beach clean and clothes swap and repair café items.

Guernsey Mobility Let's Go

Guernsey Mobility Let's Go deliver a range of sports and activities to a wide group of ages and abilities from various residential/day care homes and a local school. Once a year they bring all the school pupils together with all of their adults and build a mini Olympics day - this year it will be the "Island Games" theme. Funds will go towards hire of the hall, medals, awards and marketing.

Grow limited

As part of their new build and ongoing commitment to their crew and adults with learning disabilities, Grow Limited are improving their knowledge of all areas of accessibility. They will train their part time facilities supervisor and training & development manager in the access audit course run by the GDA.

Gsy child contact centre lbg

To make the contact centre safe and enjoyable to use, they will put down artificial turf, paint the walls with bright colours and diplay art work on the walls. They also want to purchase some outside toys for the children such as sand and water play and netball hoop.

Mindfulness Workshops for Parent / Carers 

These workshops are designed for parents / carers of autistic individuals. These sessions will help with day-to-day life, help support with coping strategies for day-to-day and the reduction of anxiety they may feel. £1000 will enable them deliver 20 sessions for parent / carers - online and face-to-face. Approx. 10 adults attending each session

Jersey Child Care Trust 

Best Start Plus Nursery Funding Programme: The Programme funds part-time (up to 12 hours a week) nursery placements for children aged between 2-3 years old who are not meeting their age expected developmental milestones at two and whose families are living in or just above the poverty line. Funding is needed to provide three family events/pop in sessions for the families we are supporting and provide ‘busy boxes’ to engage in activities with their children at home.

Save Our Blades!  The Acorn Woodshack needs a metal detector to detect nails and screws buried in the demolition timber we reuse. Cheaper handheld devices are not powerful enough for the job and we are still damaging expensive saw blades. The metal detector required is a Quest X10 Pro Metal Detector

Training pitch hedge : Following the felling of the trees which bordered our training pitch, we’d like to plant a new hedge to provide protection from wind and improve the surrounding environment.

One-off pitch patch up : The pitch at Riley Field is poor and suffered from water-logging last winter and drought this summer The JFA have reported that the pitch may become too dangerous to use.  We are seeking funding to buy grass seed to improve the usability of our pitch and reduce any risk of injury so that our boys and girls can play safely throughout the winter.

Accessible picnic benches : GROW Jersey offers social and therapeutic horticulture while providing education and awareness on issues such as the climate emergency, biodiversity loss, and soil management. It also helps people who struggle to afford healthy food by growing fruit and vegetables. Funding is for 4 picnic tables from the La Moye prison workshop for our volunteers and community users.

Letting the Future In  : etting the Future In is a ground-breaking therapeutic service run by NPSCC Jersey that helps children and young people rebuild their lives after the impacts of sexual abuse. The therapeutic sessions use a wide variety of art materials, toys and sensory resources, to explore and support their past emotions and future hopes within their journey to recovery. We are in need of key equipment, such as canvases, painting kits, sensory toys, in order to run these sessions

JSPCA Animals' Shelter 

Pat & Chat  : Pat & Chat is an adults-only monthly group session that gives the older members of our community to meet over coffee and biscuits and enjoy the company of some of the animals. The aim of this group is to combat loneliness and promote good mental health The funds would also be spent on the drinks, biscuits and cakes for 12 months. We usually have around 20-25 visitors per month.

The Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust 

Lightening the Load : The Lightening the Load project provides a safe space for people to talk to our psychologist or a chance to practice relaxation and mindfulness. The funding will contribute towards relaxation courses and 1-to-1 sessions, both of which are run by our Clinical Psychologist and Programme Team.

Jersey Beekeepers' Association

Beefield Viewing Apiary : This part of our project is to have a stock of beekeeping suits that will be available to visiting students, children and guests on our bee field. The purchase of 10 beekeeping suits which are to be kept on the bee field to comply with hive bio security and the reduction of disease transmission. The suits will be available for visiting groups inspecting the bees up close.

Guernsey Welfare Service 

Welfare office and foodbank : Guernsey Welfare offers support to low-income households primarily through its foodbank and voucher assistance but also via other projects. The grant will be used to purchase a new printer for our Welfare office, primarily to print our vouchers but also for other general office needs .

Man Club (Channel Islands) 

Funding for rental of meeting space : Man Club provides mental health support services for men. It does this primarily through the formation and support of men’s ‘talking’ groups. Man Club’s support services compliment counselling, coaching, therapy and mental health treatments provided by others. These funds are specifically for 6 months rental of the Vale Rec club house where we meet every fortnight.

St John’s Village Community Group 

Coffee & Friendship: The group provide a space within St John’s Church spend one morning a week for the local community who may be feeling isolated or lonely. The funds will be used for refreshments, advertising, board games and colouring equipment, heating and lighting and IT support for seniors

Purchase of child resuscitation manikins for training: To purchase at least two child resuscitation manikins to be used in training First Response.  This course is undertaken by all leaders who look after girls and young women and is vital for their safety.

Community Transport Service:  Our transport service takes isolated people with unmet transport needs to their essential appointments and activities. This funding will help towards 40 first aid kits for their fleet of cars.

Music Therapy for Individuals with Autism: To help with the running of music therapy sessions. These take place on a weekly 1:1 basis in individuals' homes. The Music therapist will tailor their approach to meet the needs of each individual, working to build a therapeutic relationship and to foster interaction through live improvised music using a wide range of instruments, songs and music technology

Soft fruit area expansion: We intend to use any funds granted to expand the area we currently have planted to soft fruit.  Fruit produced will be sold on our Hedge Veg shed.  The proceeds from sales will be ploughed back into expanding the area we are using to grow fruit and vegetables. Funds will go toward a fruit cage and fruit bushes

Guernsey Fostercare and Adoption Association 

Welcome Boxes: Many children enter foster care with few belongings and with their future unknown this is a time of high anxiety. The welcome box is a very simple way to comfort a child when they enter foster care. There is a general list of essentials such as journals, fleecy blanket, colouring books, pencils and crayons, but the social worker will add things that are specific to the child in order that it feels more personal. The funds will go towards creating these boxes.

St Matthew's church Map group 

Pedestrian access gate to church field: The grant will help provide a wooden gate in keeping with the rural aspect of the area and to clear a short path into the field from a safer entry point, to be accessible to the community including baby buggy and wheelchair users.

Development & scaling fund: The Better Journey Project is a recently launched community project leading the way to more sustainable travel​, whilst also improving wellbeing, mental health and reducing on-island emissions through modal transportation shift. St Peter's Church, St. Pierre du Bois

Monthly Lunch Club (for Seniors):  We host a cooked two course nutritious meal for around 20 people most of whom are at least 75 years old.  The focus is to reduce social isolation, increase social connectedness and provide a safe and predicable place for more vulnerable in the community.

Interactive Smart Boards for Emergency Briefings: We are a Search & Rescue Organisation that is called out for Emergency searches in the Channel Islands.  The interactive boards will enable us to deliver a relevant & detailed briefing to the crew and will assist us to complete our pre-flight checklists in a more efficient manner.

The Smile for Georgie Foundation 

The Smile for Georgie Foundation Nature Reserve: Creating a Nature Reserve at Creve Coeur in Guernsey. We are planning on installing picnic benches on the nature reserve and this sum will go towards meeting a part of this cost

The Clean Earth Trust 

The Clean Earth Trust is a local charity working to limit human impact on our environment. They run many successful projects including weekly beach cleans/surveys and a repair cafe. Running costs for the Charity will enable the weekly workshops to run and push forward with advancing on legislation/policy for items such as plastic free Guernsey and smoke free beaches.

Le Marchant Ward 

Day Room Facilities: The grant will help further equip our current dayroom with a hot drinks machine for relatives and patients and also especially adaptive chairs so patients who cannot sit in normal chairs can also enjoy the facilities of the day room.

Volunteer Engagement. Engaging with the general public, corporates and other charities in conservation and habitat management. To purchase First aid kit, sun hat and sickles for volunteers

YES project - drop-in resources. The YES project is a service providing free confidential advice, guidance and counselling for young people under 25 years. Jersey Brain Tumour Charity 

Community Support - Funds will support rent to hold regular buddy meetings for those diagnosed or impacted by a Brain Tumour (BT) and who might be struggling to maintain their pre-BT way of life or are recovering from BT treatments including operations.

Family Work Intervention. Focus on Mental Illness provide evidence-based therapeutic family work to those affected by severe mental illness and their family members. St Luke's Church 

Afternoon Teas for Elderly Parishioners. St Luke's has been offering afternoon tea to those over 70 who live in the parish. It has been a well-received series of events that help to bring members of the community together and beat loneliness for the elderly generation.
