Easy Food Compost

Easy Food Compost

Composting your food at home is a great way to recycle your kitchen and garden waste. This is great for the environment in many ways, including enriching soil, suppressing plant diseases and pests and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers, alongside reducing landfill waste.

  • Step 1 - Get a large plant pot that you would normally use for planting.
  • Step 2 - Fill the bottom of the pot with soil and then put dried leaves on top.
  • Step 3 - Add your food wastage such as vegetables, fruit, eggshells, tea leaves and grass into the pot.
  • Step 4 - Each time you fill the pot with food waste, add some dried leaves on top as this will decompose the food.
  • Step 5 - When the pot is almost filled to the top, add more dried leaves and then add soil on top.
  • Step 6 - Add water to the pot and set aside for 1 month, filling the pot with water occasionally.
  • Step 7 - After 1 month you can empty the pot and mix the contents, you will be left with a nutritious earthy mixture.
  • Step 8 - You can then add your compost to soil or work it into crop beds to add nutrition for your plants, alongside this you can distribute it onto the garden lawn.
