Community Christmas

Community Christmas

Help make a real difference in the local community this Christmas

When you shop at your local Coop, you’re not just picking up your shopping - you’re giving back and helping great things happen across the island!

We’re calling on our amazing shoppers to help share some festive kindness with those who need it most in our community. There are many ways you can get involved and make a real difference - whether it’s by making a donation or donating gifts and food in store. Take a look below at the ways you can help be part of the magic.

The magic of giving is back! Our much-loved Christmas Wish Tree returns to Grand Marché St Helier from 1 - 14 December, ready to spread joy across the island.

This year, our tree is filled with heartfelt wishes from islanders cared for by our friends at Jersey’s Mental Health Wards and the Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship. Each tag represents a simple wish - and the chance to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Pick a tag from our Wish Tree in store at Grand Marché, St Helier

2. Purchase the gift described - up to a suggested value of £25

3. Gift wrap it and attach the wish tag to the outside

4. Return your gift to our Customer Services desk in Grand Marché, St Helier, by Sunday 14 December

Together, we can help brighten someone’s Christmas.

This year, gifts from our Christmas Wish Tree will be delivered to people supported by:

  • Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship (JAYF): offering safe and welcoming accommodation to young people aged 18–25 who may otherwise face homelessness.
  • Jersey’s Mental Health Wards: caring for islanders living with dementia and other mental health conditions in residential settings.

This Christmas, from 1-14 December, donate £2, £5 or £10 at the checkout and CI Coop will match it to double its impact!*

Every penny will stay on-island, supporting the Jersey Christmas Appeal, Age Concern, Freeda and Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey - charities chosen by our Coop colleagues, because they touch lives every single day.

Together, we can brighten the season for islanders who need it most. If you can, please add a donation at the checkout and help make a real difference. Thank you.

*CI Coop will match fund donations up to £10,000.

A huge thank you to everyone who got behind this Christmas initiative. Together, across the Channel Islands, you donated an incredible £4,406, which we were proud to match - bringing the total raised to a fantastic £8,812!

As you stock up on Christmas essentials and festive favourites, why not add an extra item or two to your basket and help bring a little extra sparkle to someone else’s Christmas?

Times are tough for many in our community, and local charities are working harder than ever to support those who need a helping hand this season. Every tin, packet or treat you donate—whether it’s a little or a lot—makes a real difference to islanders this Christmas.

Your kindness will directly support these incredible local causes:

On behalf of these wonderful community charities, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our members and customers for your ongoing generosity.

How to take part

1. Spot the Food Donation signs in our Grand Marché stores

2. Pick up any of the suggested items while you shop

3. Pop your donations into our collection boxes on your way out

4. We’ll deliver everything to the charities throughout December

5. Spread the word! Encourage friends and family to get involved too

And don’t forget — Pet Food donations are also welcomed at St Helier Grand Marché, supporting the JSPCA.

This Christmas, we’re excited to support Acorn’s innovative plastic recycling initiative - a project that not only cuts down on waste, but also creates meaningful opportunities for Islanders living with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

Acorn’s new venture gives festive plastics a fresh start by transforming them into useful, saleable products. Think Quality Street tubs turned into sunglasses - recycling with real impact and creativity!

We’re proud our Coop Community Fund has also helped to drive this forward by funding a 3D printer and filament maker to support the production process.

How you can get involved

Once you've eaten all the chocolates, simply bring your empty tub to one of our recycling cages at Grand Marché St Helier or Grand Marché St Peter.

Quality Street, Roses, and Celebrations tubs are all accepted — just look out for the cages in store!

Together, we can turn festive leftovers into something brilliant.

When you're shopping this Christmas, don't forget - we run dedicated quiet times twice a week and have resources available at our Grand Marché Customer Service desks for our neurodiverse customers.

Quiet time hours: Mondays 3pm-5pm and Saturdays 5pm-7pm at Coop Grand Marché stores.
