Job Role
We're looking for a Category Officer to join our team on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract from 28 July 2025 - 30 January 2026.
Role Purpose: To provide a full and complete service in terms of Category Administration / Management for a given Category or Categories within the Society. This will include ensuring that the Trading Systems are correct and complete in terms of data, ensuring that store plans are always up to date. That stores are fully informed of changes to, that queries from the Service Desk are prioritised and actioned.
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure that they are always fully conversant with the operation of the Trading Systems Include JDA.
- Recognise any areas of development and arrange for coaching / training as required.
- Create and amend JDA planograms for stores using sales and waste data which accurately reflects in store space.
- Understand and be comfortable with the requirement for the maintenance of the data including pricing in the Retail Trading Systems.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of the data in the Retail Trading Systems for a given Category or
Categories to review and manage. - Continually review the data in the Retail Trading Systems to ensure that it is correct and complete.
- Ensure that Stores are fully informed of all changes to their plans in accordance with published timelines and support at store level when required.
- Be a point of contact for Trading queries from the Service Desk and to prioritize and respond to these in a timely manner.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of system data in respect of local suppliers and to ensure this is always up to date.
- Assess sales performance of different ranges.
- Meet with suppliers, distributors and analysts when required.
- Embed the culture and values of the Society within Trading Team and encourage all management and staff to attain the highest possible standards and work within the spirit of the agreed Aims and Values of the Society and the Management Charter; create an operational climate that is conducive to employee development, engagement and loyalty.
- Act always to protect and develop the image of the Society, support community activities, charitable projects, environmental initiatives and local suppliers.
- Ensure that the Society trades within the laws and regulations of Jersey and Guernsey.
- Perform any other duties as required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- The ability to work cross functionally both within the Trading Team and across the Retail Estate.
- The ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
- A pro-active nature with a willingness to investigate problems and suggest solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong attention to detail & accuracy.
- Business communication skills.
- Commercial awareness.
- Experience of Retail Operations is desirable.
- Excel skills are essential.
- Strong customer services skills required.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
